Abstract
P&R facilities are widely adopted by many countries in order to mitigate traffic congestion and traffic-related pollution. This thesis investigates whether there might be disadvantages of P&R provision depending on the location choice. The main contribution is to provide a simple and tractable deterministic model with adopting a single public transportation in the form of a metro station and a P&R facility. Mode choice equilibria are characterized with and without P&R. Two numerical examples are documented to illustrate the results and their implications in which providing a P&R facility is not preferable at any location. By deriving the total cost and total distance driven functions, we interpret the results from both cost and environmental perspectives, and document the discrepancy between the location choices from the two perspectives.
