Abstract

The contemporary strive to define, describe, and classify the changes in how old media are re-presented by new-media has generated a debate that divides new-media theorists into two main opposing camps. The first, based on the concept of remediation, stresses the importance of the technological element, and the second, with a transmediation approach, prioritizes the transformation and adaptation of content to the specificities of the language of the chosen medium. This article presents an analysis of the field of new-media theory not to provide a resolution to the issue, but to offer a more cohesive understanding of the fragmentations and transformations that new-media technologies have generated in the display and transmission of, as well as engagement with content.
