Abstract

This collection brings together, with a new introduction, 70 articles from leading journals covering all aspects of politics in Turkey from the end of the Ottoman empire to the application for EU membership, a period of about 80 years representing one of the most dramatic modernization drives in any nation. Among issues covered are state secularism vs Islamism, pro-westernism and traditionalism, the EU question, democracy, US/Russian/Middle East/Turkic foreign policy issues, the Cyprus problem, and the role of women in Turkish politics.
