Suzanne Lacy: Birlikte/Togaether

Suzanne Lacy's work, which is a gathering of people and information, an organization of body politics, happens in the world, part of life, outside the art system, and constitutes a fundamental challenge to norms of conventional museology. Like many of her generation who've taken a feminist/activist stance in their artistic approach, Lacy oversteps the conventional boundaries between art and life; between art and politics; and between aesthetics and ethics. Towards the 1990s, it was her rethinking of what makes public art "public" that enhanced the practice of public art bringing into the frame her feminist politics; today, Lacy's work is considered a form of artistic pedagogy from which "museums can learn" as she experiments with the aesthetic possibilities of overcoming the conventional boundaries which define art practice.
