Abstract

With increased environmental concerns across the globe, the awareness of the society and the scientific community has escalated significantly. In the materials world, the sustainable and environmental approaches have been on the increased demand and with many new discoveries, the future looks more promising with eco-friendly materials. Within this framework, biocomposites and bionanocomposites provides many new opportunities for the environment, manufacturing and materials world. The quantification of the environment friendliness lies mainly on the life-cycle-assesment studies that rely on scientific measurements of the processes that are used to manufacture these bionanocomposites. In this invaluable book on Bionanocomposites and in this chapter of the book, life cycle assessment measurements have been described in a historical perspective and the new methods are explained in depth. These methods are also correlated with “Bio-nanocomposites”.
