Abstract

The growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is a crucial step toward sustainable logistics; however, it presents significant challenges, including limited range, recharging demands, and infrastructure constraints. This chapter examines the route optimization of EVs used in freight transport and the associated complexities, such as nonlinear charging behaviors, different charger technologies, and factors affecting battery performance and degradation. Various charging solutions are explored, including depot and public charging stations, battery swapping, wireless charging, and road electrification. By evaluating these advancements, the chapter aims to outline strategies for optimizing EV fleet operations and identify future research directions to support broader EV adoption in logistics.
