Abstract

This concert will present melodies of Turkish Ashiqs (Minstrels, Wandering Musician Poets) who travelled along the Silk Road, recited poems and stories while singing songs for centuries. From Balkans to the Caucasus and Central Asia, Cagri Haksoz will bring together authentic and old tunes with Turkish style improvisations with his Baglama/Saz (long-necked Turkish folk lute) and voice. Ashiq melodies reflect the love, parting, joy, sadness, heroism, and friendship with unique Turkish Music styles and modes (makam).
