Abstract

In this study, the mixing performances of passive micromixers with sharp edges were investigated. First, a validation study was conducted by using experimental results on a passive micromixers in the literature. The arrangement of the triangle obstacles was then changed to optimize the mixing performance. The numerical simulation results showed an acceptable agreement with the experimental results. The new geometry of the mixer exhibited a significantly better performance compared to the original reference microfluidic device. The reason for this enhancement was analysed and discussed detail. The doubled vortex region in the optimized micromixer was responsible for the performance enhancement.
