In domestic and international matters alike, Donald Trump promised a radical shift from the policies of Barack Obama by putting American interests first. Despite his pledge to destroy the threat of Islamist terrorism and US commitments to Israel and other allies in the Middle East, to what extent can Trump rebalance from the region, a policy Obama is accused of having managed so poorly? The article examines both Obama's balance sheet and early initiatives of Trump's Middle East apprenticeship.
