Cutting tool temperature affects the tool wear, dimensional tolerances and surface integrity of machined parts significantly. Models for machining processes can be used to predict cutting force and temperature. On the other hand, geometry of cutting tool and cutting conditions have significant effects on cutting mechanism, forces and temperatures. In order to have a comprehensive insight on cutting process and for the selection of the proper cutting conditions, a predictive model for forces and temperatures is required. In the present study, an analytical method based on thermomechanical model is developed to predict the temperature distribution in cutting tool. This study is step ahead from the previous studies as it uses the dual zone contact model to predict heat flux on flank face. Important features of the tool geometry such as clearance angle and cutting-edge radius are considered in the model. Model predictions are verified using experimental measurements.
