Lu, Dawei and Ertek, Gürdal and Betts, Alan (2011) Modelling the supply chain perception gaps. (Submitted)
The perception gap between the suppliers and buyers has been the major source of impediments to the supply chain integration and has thus far been largely undetected. This paper identifies and analyzes the supply chain requirement and fulfillment perception gaps for a major insurance company. Based on the firsthand data collected from a large scale survey in 8 suppliers and the buyer over a total of 207 respondents, a focused analysis has been carried out using statistical and machine learning techniques, including hierarchical clustering and multi-dimensional scaling. The result reveals that there was significant variation in view of the importance of performance objectives and unexpected discrepancies in how suppliers’ performances ought to be evaluated. Recommendations have also been constructed to improve the supply chain performance.
